Concerta – methylphenidate (abbreviated: MPH; trade names including Ritalin, Medikinet, Concerta) is a drug from the group of phenylethylamines. It has a stimulating effect and is now mainly used to treat attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and, more rarely, narcolepsy.
Although MPH is structurally somewhat similar to amphetamines, it is counted among the piperidine derivatives. It has an effect similar to pemoline and is chemically closely related to deoxypipradrol. In Germany, methylphenidate is classified as a marketable and prescription-capable narcotic
